Description: Colenso and Durnford deal with the background to the War from the Zulu perspective and are severely critical of Frere and his policy towards Cetywayo and the ultimatum which was presented to him. They are also critical of the role and motives of the Natal colonists. There is a full account of the war and the authors are naturally suspicious of Chelmsford and his perceived attempts to shift the blame for Isandlhwana onto Durnford and others.
